Kerry Group will contribute US$750,000 and technical support to pilot a three-year program called Project Leche in Honduras, Central America.
This initiative is part of a partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), the food assistance branch of the United Nations.
The project will focus on the nutritional enhancement of school meals for children in Honduras with sustainably produced dairy products.
Working with local communities and national stakeholders, the project aims to support smallholder farmers in the production of safe and sustainable dairy products that can be used locally to optimize the nutritional content of school meals.
Honduras has been hit by natural disasters and is prone to the effects of climate change, leading to food insecurity.
Since 1970, WFP has been supporting Honduran communities, especially the School Meals Programme.
Funded largely by the Honduran Government and managed by WFP, this program provides meals to 95% of the country’s total school population.
