Tate & Lyle has opened a co-generation plant at its corn wet milling facility in Loudon, Tennessee, US.
The new natural gas-fired combined heat and power system, representing a US$60 million investment, will significantly improve energy and operational efficiency at the Loudon facility.
It will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 50%.
The company’s global carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions will also be reduced by around 10% as a result of this investment.
The natural gas for the system will be supplied through a new pipeline, which will provide the wider area with additional natural gas capacity to support local economic development efforts.
