Clariant says it plans to acquire Chinese packaging specialist Vitapac.
Founded in 1992, Vitapac develops and manufactures protective packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical, neutraceutical, diagnostics and food industries, as well as for the logistics and electronics sectors, mainly in Asia Pacific.
The company focuses on active sorbents and desiccant packets for moisture absorption.
The bolt-on acquisition of Vitapac complements the portfolio of Clariant’s Healthcare Packaging business, already a leading manufacture of controlled atmosphere packaging. The agreement will help Clariant to serve customers in important emerging markets, especially in Asia.
Meeting all pertinent regulations for use in direct contact with food and drugs, Vitapac maintains a Drug Master File with the Food and Drug Administration, and is Good manufacturing practice-certified by the US National Sanitation Foundation.
Vitapac manufactures both cut and continuous strip packets in Tyvek and other nonwoven materials at its large-capacity Dongguan plant in China.
It also manufactures desiccant canisters and a variety of other sorbent configurations.
The new site joins an already global manufacturing network of production sites that include Belen, NM, USA; Romorantin, France; Changshu, China; and Sydney, Australia.
