Thin Film Electronics ASA (Thinfilm) has started delivering near field communication (NFC) OpenSense tags to lead customers for conversion and application to bottles and medical devices.
“The start of deliveries on these pilot orders is a significant accomplishment for Thinfilm and an important step in getting products containing NFC OpenSense to market,” said CEO Davor Sutija. “We expect to see NFC-enabled products with Thinfilm’s OpenSense technology reach market early in 2016.”
The NFC OpenSense tag deliveries follow several important milestones Thinfilm has achieved over the second half of 2015, including:
– The launch of the Ferngrove ‘smart wine bottle’ that is powered by printed electronics – in partnership with G World at Mobile World Congress Shanghai,
– The receipt of a five-figure unit order for NFC OpenSense tags from spirits company Diageo,
– Medical self-injection systems company Ypsomed incorporating NFC OpenSense into its YpsoMate Smart autoinjector, and
– The launch by Xerox, Thinfilm’s manufacturing scale-up partner, of two new products featuring Thinfilm’s printed memory technology.
