Americas: Watson offers premix to boost nutritional value of gluten-free food

Watson offers VitaBOOST10, a vitamin and mineral premix that is formulated to compliment gluten-free products, to the food industry and people who suffer from a digestive disorder.

The premix contains 10 essential vitamins and minerals that dieticians recommend those with celiac disease and other digestive disorders make a part of their regular diet.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that damages the villi in the small intestine, making it hard for those with the disease to absorb nutrients in food.

Sufferers are more susceptible to developing vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

“While there have been major improvements in the overall quality of gluten-free products over the last few years, especially in terms of taste and texture, there has been relatively little innovation in terms of nutrition,” says Moira Watson, VP of marketing and communications.

“As the market continues to mature, we believe that we will see an increased interest in nutritional claims.”

“Already, many of the major gluten-free brands have introduced whole grain offerings. We believe that this focus on nutrition will continue to evolve to include not only whole grain, but high fiber, high protein as well as basic fortification claims.”

Suitable for all gluten-free applications, VitaBOOST10 is formulated to provide 15% of the daily value of these vitamins and minerals per serving.
