Asia Pacific: Japanese mushroom grower opens subsidiary in China

Ichimasa Agrotechnology (Changzhou), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Japan’s Ichimasa Kamaboko, has opened for business in Changzhou National Hi-Tech District (CND) to specialize in industrial production of soil-less culture organic fungus and mushrooms.

Ichimasa Kamaboko is a Japan-based publicly traded company mainly engaged in the production of fungus and mushrooms in addition to raw materials for Japanese hot pot and oden.

The company chose Changzhou as the location for its first operation in China in a move to meet the market’s increasing demand for healthy foods.

Japanese hot pot is a traditional Japanese delicacy made with pure soup-stock and herbal ingredients.

The product is available in three varieties: Sukiyaki, seafood hot pot and hot pot using ingredients that typically only grow in mountainous regions.

The CND has seen more than 40 Japanese companies, including Komatsu, Bridgestone, Marubeni Corporation, Hitachi, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Fuji Heavy Industries and Denso Corporation, select the high technology district as the locale for their China-based manufacturing facilities.
