Europe: Coveris invests in machines at site to produce pouches, plastic packaging

Plastic packaging manufacturer Coveris is expanding the machine park at its site in Neuwied, Germany.

With the new triplex laminating unit, the company can offer more products to manufacturers in the coffee and tea, as well as wet pet food segments.

The increased production capacity of the unit, which began full operations in June 2014, makes it possible to respond quickly to special requests from customers.

As a “tandem unit,” it can run either in triplex mode or in parallel, simultaneous duplex mode.

The new technology will also allow Coveris to manufacture new products such as inner wrapper coffee packaging to preserve the flavor and to protect it from environmental influences.

The company can also create inner and outer wrappers for coffee brickpacks packaging and vacuum packs.

To create the desired effect at the point of sale, packaging can be printed with up to nine-color rotogravure and use effects such as a metallic hot stamping, embossed shape, matte or glossy finish.

The company says these investments establish the Neuwied site as a Center of Excellence for the areas of coffee and tea, pet food and blockbottom bags.
