Asia Pacific: Authority welcomes comments on dairy processing aid

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) today called for submissions on an application to permit a new processing aid.

FSANZ CEO Steve McCutcheon said the applicant was seeking to permit the use of an agarose ion exchange resin to extract lactoferrin from milk.

“This processing aid is already used elsewhere in the world to extract the lactoferrin from milk for use as an ingredient in other products,” he said.

“FSANZ has assessed the application and determined there are no public health and safety concerns associated with its use.”

FSANZ welcomes comments from government agencies, public health professionals, industry and the community by March 29, 2016.
