Americas: Sigma-Aldrich lists on DJSI

Sigma-Aldrich Corporation was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), a list of leading companies from around the world in terms of their social, environmental and economic performance, for the third consecutive year.

The company, which has been named for three consecutive years, is the only St. Louis-based company to receive this designation.

With the introduction of its GC1015 Initiative in 2010, Sigma-Aldrich has increasingly ramped up its efforts to reduce waste, energy and water usage and carbon emissions; to improve supply chain transparency; and to increase its greener alternative products offering and employee volunteerism around the world.

In 2014, the company saw increased positive outcomes in segments – Economic, Environmental, and Social – tracked by the DJSI.

Sigma-Aldrich garnered a 3% overall increase in its performance as measured by the DJSI, and that includes a 7% improvement in its social score – the largest area of improvement for the company, says Jeffrey Whitford, global citizenship director.
