Europe: Krones wins two gold International FoodTec Award

The DLG (German Agricultural Society) has awarded Krones a Gold Medal in the International FoodTec Award for its VarioSpin pressure deaerator.

The solution for product deaeration ensures high product and process quality in beverage plants.

The VarioSpin’s specially developed swirl inlet, together with the ingenious geometry of the vacuum tank and the type-specific process control capabilities, result in both a substantial improvement in quality and an enhanced level of operational dependability.

In addition, the company received a second Gold Medal as the co-entrant for the ‘Transformation of thermal energy systems; project, which the Murau Municipal Utilities had submitted together with the Murau Brewery and Krones AG’s Steinecker plant.

By connecting up to the locally produced district heat network of Murau Municipal Utilities, and by using an efficient energy-saving system supplied by Krones, the Austrian Murau Brewery has evolved into one of the most economical breweries in the world.

For the complete change-over of the energy supply to locally produced regenerative district heat, the development of an innovative stratified energy storage tank, to which all thermal energy consumers in the brewery are connected, was of crucial importance.

A challenge that Krones met and mastered to perfection with the Steinecker EquiTherm.

The result of these extensive efforts is that nowadays the brewery is achieving a figure of less than 19 kWh for thermal energy per hl of unblended beer produced, which corresponds to energy savings of around 30%.
