Americas: Colorcon’s organic coating receives Non-GMO verification

Colorcon’s Opadry NutraPure, certified organic coating is now Non-genetically modified organism (GMO) project verified.

This verification is the latest achievement by the company in its aim to provide clean label ingredients for nutritional coating formulas.

The company says Opadry NutraPure has already captured the attention of businesses marketing certified organic dietary supplements, as well as those who desire a more natural ingredients list.

This new verification now adds the value of offering customers a verified Non-GMO choice.

Opadry NutraPure is produced in compliance with the Non-GMO Project Standard, which means Colorcon follows rigorous best practices for GMO avoidance, including segregation and traceability to prevent contamination.

According to the 2013 Market LOHAS Mambo Track Health and Natural Shopper Annual Study, 76% of natural food shoppers are seeking Non-GMO products with Non-GMO project verified products representing more than US$8 billion in annual sales.

“As awareness of food ingredient labeling has increased, consumers are searching the retail shelves looking for Non-GMO labeled products. As a result, we have experienced an increased interest from manufacturers to use more clean label ingredients for coatings and to meet this market need we chose for our product to become Non-GMO project verified,” said senior business manager – Naturals and Food, Lou Palermo.

“Opadry NutraPure produces a high gloss tablet that consumers will find appealing and easier to swallow,” says Charlie Cunningham, senior manager – product development.

It also imparts exceptional flow to coated tablets and eliminates dusting which in turn facilitates packaging, handling and ultimately eases manufacturing.
